| Day 1 | Participants must arrive at JFK Airport, Terminal 3, in New York City by 3pm to check in to South African Airways flight #204 that departs at 5:55pm. |
| Day 2 | Arrive Johannesburg 5:05pm (local time). Upon arrival, retrieve luggage and proceed through immigration. After baggage collection and customs, group will be greeted by local guide and transferred to the DON SUITES HOTEL. Upon arrival at hotel check-in. The evening is free to relax and unwind. Checkout Sandton! There’s lots to do and see with its many shops, boutiques and restaurants located in a few upscale malls. Overnight Johannesburg. |
| Day 3 | Breakfast at hotel. Midday departure to Johannesburg. The first stop will the MUSEUMAFRICA , in Newtown, down town Johannesburg. The MuseuMAfricA is particularly worth a visit with its exhibits that tell the story of the city from its beginnings to the present day. You step into a typical 1950s shebeen at MuseuMAfricA and an automatic motion monitor churns out a Marabi tune. Complete with mannequins in Stetson hats, the gumba-gumba record player and the inescapable bar atmosphere, the shebeen comes alive. You are instantly transported back in time. After the tour, the group will proceed to Moyo Market Theatre Restaurant for lunch (included). Moyo’s offers unparalleled dining experience in a setting that embodies sophisticated Africa. Moyo means “soul” and that is felt throughout your dining experience. After lunch continue onto the Apartheid Museum, which explores the culture, the history and the struggles of Apartheid. The overriding message is to show visitors the perilous results of racial prejudice and how this, in the case of South Africa, nearly destroyed the country and in so doing destroyed people's lives and caused enormous suffering. After a few hours at the Apartheid Museum you will feel that you were in the townships in the 70s and 80s, dodging police bullets or teargas canisters, marching or carrying the body of a comrade into a nearby house. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. Overnight Johannesburg. |
| Day 4 | Breakfast at hotel. 8:30am depart hotel to Soweto (an acronym for South-Western Townships). The largest black township in the country, consisting of 26 townships, each of which was designed to be independent, with residents from all the tribes in South Africa. This sprawling metropolis of more than 3.5 million people outside of Johannesburg, is synonymous with South Africa’s turbulent past and its hopes for the future. The group will visit the Hector Peterson Memorial, honoring a 13-year old child fatally wounded on 16 June 1976. Also see housing that ranges from shacks to large mansions; there is one street where you can find the houses of two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. And, Baragwaneth Hospital, thought to be the largest hospital in the southern hemisphere. Tour will stop for lunch (included) in Soweto at Wandie’s Restaurant, a former ‘Shebeen’ (name previously given to illegal liquor outlets). Enjoy a buffet of typically indigenous cuisine. Return to hotel late afternoon. Overnight Johannesburg. |
| Day 5 | Breakfast at hotel. Early morning departure on a true "Out of Africa" experience. Group will visit Glen Afric Country Lodge. Located just under an hour away from Sandton, falling within the new World Heritage Site “The Cradle of Humankind", GlenAfric is home to 32 species of African wildlife, including lion, cheetah, hippo, elephant, buffalo, plus over 340 identified bird species and a vulture restaurant, feeding over 120 birds. Group will experience a walking safari. Walk with one of their orphaned, hand-reared young elephants, up close and personal. Walking safaris are always exciting, original and unpredictable. Enjoy lunch (included) on a viewing deck with time to relax and unwind, watching the animals at the waterhole. Set in the splendor of the Magaliesburg Mountains, the lodge is nestled in a private valley where the game roams freely in terrain that switches from savannahs to hills and mountains, offering spectacular panoramas. Return to hotel in the afternoon. Overnight Johannesburg. |
| Day 6 | Breakfast at hotel. Checkout of hotel and depart hotel in the morning for the airport. Depart Johannesburg via South African Airways arriving Cape Town early afternoon. Upon arrival group will be met and transferred to the PROTEA SEA POINT HOTEL, located in Sea Point, a suburb of Cape Town. Down at the sea promenade you find a long row of luxury apartment blocks. In between lies the Main Road with pubs, music clubs, coffee shops and some good restaurants like Mr. Chan or bistros like the lively New York Bagel.. The remainder of the day is at leisure. The hotel is located in Bantry Bay Bantry Bay in the heart of the most exclusive residential stretch on Cape Town's Atlantic coastline. Bantry Bay is also centrally located for easy access to entertainment venues, world-class shopping centers and restaurants. Overnight Cape Town. |
| Day 7 | Breakfast at hotel. 8:00am departure to the Nelson Mandela Gateway to Robben Island, a World Heritage Site. A prison or penal colony since the first settlers arrived in Cape Town centuries ago, the island became infamous during South Africa's years under Apartheid rule. The government banished dissidents and political prisoners to the island, the most famous one being former president, Nelson Mandela. The tour is conducted by a former inmate who will reveal the harrowing conditions that were once commonplace and will bring home why Robben Island is a symbol of courage and determination of the human spirit to triumph over adversity. After, group will enjoy lunch at Lelapa Restaurant in Langa (included). Townships came about during Apartheid when the government allocated land for the construction of thousands of two-room houses. This settlement was called Langa. The others include Nyanga, Guguletu and Khayelitsha. After lunch, the tour will touch your heart and awaken your inner spirit as you discover the sad but also positive history of Cape Town and its people. View lifestyles affected by the many years of Apartheid. Late afternoon return to the hotel. Overnight Cape Town. |
| Day 8 | Breakfast at hotel. Morning departure to Cape Point. Cape Point is a wild and scenically spectacular area at the tip of the Cape Peninsula and the African continent. It is said that the two oceans, the Indian and Atlantic, meet at Cape Point, but there is no straight defining line. Departing Cape Point the group will return to Cape Town via the Winelands, one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Departing Cape Point the group will continue to Spier Wine Estate. An enchanting Cape African experience awaits you at historic Spier in the heart of the Stellenbosch Winelands, one of the most beautiful parts of the world. There will be time for a tour of the Estate and wine-tasting. After the tour, enjoy lunch (included) at Jonkershuis Restaurant, offering traditional Cape Malay buffet which includes soup, farm breads, cold dishes, salads, curries and Malay specialties. Overnight Cape Town. |
| Day 9 | Breakfast at hotel. The morning is free. Take the morning to explore Cape Town. Cape Town is a city best explored on foot. Walk down Adderley Street, the city’s main thoroughfare and visit the Golden Acre complex of stores and specialty shops. Don’t forget a visit to Table Mountain, Cape Town’s most popular attraction with its magnificent views from its distinctively flattop summit. Checkout of hotel by 11am and depart hotel for airport. South African Airways flight 342 departs Cape Town at 1:40pm, arriving Johannesburg at 3:40pm. Upon arrival retrieve luggage and proceed to International Terminal for check-in to South African flight #203 that departs at 7:15pm. |
