Ethiopia / September 8-21, 2007

Dahved is traveling to Ethiopia to celebrate the Millennium!

A nation of biblical legends: Moses' wife was Ethiopian, and so was the Queen of Sheba; the late Emperor Haile Selassie was said to be a descendant of Sheba and King Solomon. The Ark of the Covenant, the gold chest that reportedly holds the Ten Commandments, is rumored to be secretly tucked away in a church in northern Ethiopia. A nation of ancient culture and traditions that date back over 3,000 years.

A Millennium occurs every 1,000 years. With our limited and short lifetime, those who have had the chance to celebrate one millennium are more than just lucky. They are blessed. The Ethiopian calendar, based on the Julian calendar, has 13 months consisting of 12 months of 30 days and the thirteenth with 5 days (and 6 day once in four years - a leap year). Our present calendar is thus seven years and eight months ahead of the Julian calendar. Hence, Ethiopia is seven years and eight months younger than the rest of the Christian world.

The Ethiopian New Year starts at the 1st of Meskerem and falls on September 11, 2007. Imagine celebrating a second millennium in one of the world's historically and culturally diverse and rich society of all times. It would be the experience of a lifetime and you would really be feeling 7 years younger!!!
